Our Back to Our Roots Screening Was a Powerful Success!
We were thrilled to kick off the month with the highly anticipated release of Back to Our Roots, a transformative documentary that traces a powerful journey of identity, empowerment, and connection. The film follows eight African immigrant and refugee youth, alongside four dedicated staff members, as they embark on a life-changing 19-day journey to Nairobi, Kenya.
This milestone trip, led by AYCO., aligned beautifully with our mission to empower and educate African immigrant communities. The immersive experience included visits to orphanages, a breathtaking safari, meetings with business and political leaders, and unforgettable tours of some of Africa’s largest refugee camps — Dadaab, IFO, and Hagadera.
Every moment of this transformative journey was captured and beautifully woven into the Back to Our Roots Documentary, which we proudly screened to a full and enthusiastic audience.
The screening was nothing short of moving — an emotional, eye-opening experience that deeply resonated with everyone in the room. Following the film, the BOR cohort took the stage for a powerful panel discussion, sharing personal reflections and behind-the-scenes insights from their journey.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees praised the honesty, heart, and purpose driving the project, calling it more than just a film, but a celebration of resilience, growth, and the strength of cultural identity. Thank you to everyone who came out to support, listen, and engage. Your encouragement fuels this work and we’re just getting started!
Exciting news! Our next screening is happening in Seattle, Washington. Stay tuned!
